Solar Energy in Guatemala

Solar Energy is the one that comes from the radiation of the sun.

From this radiation we obtain:

  • Heat
  • Electricity

Heat is captured by thermal collectors, and electricity through photovoltaic panels.

Because of their geographic position, Guatemala have significant levels of solar radiation. This comes in hand for Guatemala to take advantage of this form of energy.

As of April 2018, there are eight photovoltaic solar power plants for electricity generation connected to the National Interconnected System, with a total effective installed power of 91.5 MW.

One of these plants is located in Estanzuela, Zacapa, two in Chiquimulilla, Santa Rosa;
three in Taxisco, Santa Rosa; one in Moyuta, Jutiapa; and one in Jutiapa, Jutiapa.
